Meet Your Consultant

Hi, I’m Bruce.

I’m a home renovation consultant, real estate agent, and author. I draw on nearly 35 years’ experience with houses, including 17 as producer of the television series This Old House and its sister shows, where I earned an Emmy and learned the hallmarks of quality design and construction.

In my consulting work, I employ my expertise and extensive Rolodex to help homeowners achieve success in their home renovations, guiding them through the process, setting their time and money expectations, and helping them put together the right team to ensure the right outcome.

In my real estate partnership with John Bigelow at Compass, I bring this unique set of skills to my work representing buyers and sellers in Cambridge and surrounding towns. My clients benefit from my ability to discern a property’s strengths and weaknesses, and they appreciate my strong work ethic and sense of humor.

I write about architecture and design for several publications and am the author of New England Icons, a book about the region’s built environment. I also co-host the "Builder's Notebook" podcast with Sarah Lawson, president of S+H Construction, an award-winning general contracting firm. I graduated from Williams College in 1983. I live with my wife Debby in Cambridge, where I serve as chairman of the city’s historical commission and as a council member at the Cambridge Historical Society.

Thanks to my many years at This Old House and in the real estate market, I bring a unique perspective to any home project.
